What Adaptable Outdoors offers participants...
Depending on participants' goals and abilities, we offer paddling from our fully adaptive kayaks or canoe. We have a variety of adaptive equipment available including specialized seating with full lateral supports, outriggers for added stability and various gripping aids to help the user hold the paddle. Our goal is to create a safe and fun adventure while providing the participant with support as needed. Paddling is offered to individuals from age 4 and up.
Adaptable Outdoors staff/volunteers do not provide personal care (eg. feeding/toileting). For clients of any age needing assistance with personal care, we require that a caregiver be present.
To Volunteer for Adaptive Paddling with Adaptable Outdoors...
We do not require any type of paddling certification, however, we do require that you feel comfortable on the water and that you have some experience paddling. Clients have the option to add an adaptive fishing experience to any paddle. Fishing experience is NOT required to volunteer for paddling. However, please let us know if you have experience fishing, so that we may plan on your help with assisting clients to cast, changing lures, and netting fish. Training and safety protocols are provided to our volunteers on the program day before each Adaptive Paddle begins.
If you have any questions regarding the expectations we require for you to assist us with the paddling programs, please don't hesitate to contact us for further clarification at [email protected]
* An Alberta fishing license is not required if you are only assisting clients with fishing and are not fishing for yourself. If you wish to fish on your own, an Alberta fishing license is required ~ available to purchase online at Hunting and Fishing Licenses - AlbertaRELM . Fishing licenses are not required during Alberta's free fishing weekend on July 12th and 13th. A person who holds a 'Certificate of Indian Status" or Alberta residents aged 65 and up do not require a fishing license anytime of the year.
~ Location for Paddling: Our paddling programs take place in lakes around Southern Alberta, some are in the foothills (Beauvais Lake, Payne Lake), some may be scheduled in Lethbridge, and some at other locations in the mountains (Cameron Lake, Beaver Mines).
