What Adaptable Outdoors offers participants...
We offer hiking experiences for people with physical and/or cognitive challenges. For those with cognitive challenges, we provide volunteer support, local knowledge, and expertise on the trail.
For those with mobility challenges, we provide a TrailRider and volunteer support to push and pull the TrailRider. The number of volunteers required for TrailRider hiking depends on the type of hike (distance, elevation, terrain). The hikes take place on trails in Castle Provincial Parks, Beauvais Lake or Waterton National Park. The exact hiking location will be determined based on the client's goals, the ability of the group, and weather conditions. We will contact you with the exact location before the day.
To Volunteer for Adaptive Hiking with Adaptable Outdoors...
We require that volunteers have some basic hiking experience and a decent level of fitness and strength to be able to assist with pushing and pulling the TrailRider. To join our half-day hikes you should be able to comfortably hike 6-8km with mild elevation. To join our full-day hikes you should be able to comfortably hike 10km with moderate elevation (500-600m). Volunteers will be part of a team to push/pull the TrailRider. Training on how the TrailRider works and our safety protocols are provided before each Adaptive Hike to our volunteers.
* A phone number is required for booking, we would like to inform you as soon as possible if there is a change in weather or client participation for the days and times you have signed up for.
